Taekwondo Family
"It’s amazing how much a decision of a quick “yes” can change so much. Approximately a year and a half ago my son brought home a free pass for U.S. Tae Kwon Do that he received from a friend and wanted to know if he could try it out. We told him that he could give it a shot but not to get his hopes up because it would be a 25-30 minute drive each way, plus class time and we didn’t have the time to spare. After about a week, our daughter approached us to see if she could try TKD too. We figured it wouldn’t be a bad idea for her to at least try it, after all, fair is fair. At about the one month point we knew that this is the sport for them, (after trying baseball, soccer, basketball and volleyball). It isn’t a seasonal sport, so they’re continuously building, step by step. The strength, flexibility and coordination can carry over into any sport. So we signed them up. After five months of my wife and I going and watching them workout, we started questioning each other about why weren’t we out there with them. Instead of being a cab ride to and from the school and listening about the fun they were having, we decided to join too. Unlike other sports that tie us to a strict schedule, we now have the flexibility to come when we want rather than at assigned times, and no more trying to figure out who’s getting who to where and when for random game times. We’re now a family who is always together and loving it! Besides now having a great time together as a family, there’s another perk; I’ve lost over 20 pounds, my energy level is through the roof and I’m getting back flexibility I haven’t had since High School. (At 40 this is a real benefit that I didn’t think I’d ever have again). My thanks to Grand Master Han Won Lee and his staff for making exercise fun even through sweat and discipline. Our only regret is that we didn’t start sooner! Jeff Cover and the Cover Family"

“U.S. Taekwondo Center has given my son many of the skills needed to be a leader in school and in the community. Since starting the instruction from Grand Master Lee, Steven has obtained his black belt and the confidence to be a leader at school by attending the TSA State competition and winning gold and silver. Grand Master Lee and his staff are truly interested in helping any student succeed in martial arts and the world at large.”

"Having accepted a position near my home meant that I no longer had the opportunity to work out at the gym I belonged to in Denver. I know that I needed to continue some form of exercise in my never ending search to become healthier. Living in Perry Park Ranch meant the closest opportunity for me to find an “organized” exercise program was likely to be in Castle Rock. One day, while in Castle Rock I started my search. Driving up and down Wilcox I spied the usual Jazzercise, Yoga and some other offering but none of them inspired me. Then I drove by the U.S. Taekwondo Center and thought “hey, that’s different, why don’t I check it out?” Being too intimidated to just walk in I vowed to call the center as soon as I got home. I kept that promise and spoke to a you lade whom I later learned was Ms. Dixie. Ms. Dixie said that for a nominal fee I could join for two weeks and get a free uniform! I like the idea of everyone wearing the same thing mostly because it took the pressure off of me trying to figure out what to wear and it leveled the playing field. If I wasn’t worried about looking “cute” then perhaps I’d concentrate more on exercising! (not that I look good in any exercising gear but it’s less intimidating when we all look alike!) I show up for my first lesson – very nervous – and after performing the warm up exercises Ms. Katie takes me under her wing and show me how to put my belt on, instructs me on the finder points of respecting the room, flag, instructors and all the belts above me. I start to see that this isn’t just an “exercise” program; this is a way of life. I’m not sure I’m ready for this new life but I’m going to hang in there because I have this new cool outfit that identifies me as part of something bigger and I’m just curious enough that I want to come back for my next lesson. It’s been quiet a few lessons now, and I am a proud wearer of a green belt. I have worn every belt with pride knowing that I did my very best to achieve the status of each belt. For me, Taekwondo has meant a new way of life and a sense of belonging to something bigger than just an exercise program, instructors who truly care about each student, who never tire of me asking them to demonstrate the move one more time. For me, Taekwondo is learning to respect the power of the team and the individual, the hard work that goes with each new accomplishment, honesty, and integrity. I am forever in awe of my seniors and look to help my juniors however I can. Taekwondo has given me new goals to achieve – to better myself and to set an example for those around me. Finally, Taekwondo has given me and my husband an outlet where we can be together, leaning something new where neither one of us has a huge advantage over the other. And, most of all, it’s fun!"

"My son, Adam, and I started our Taekwondo training at the USTC in February 2001 as a father-son activity. I have met many new and lifelong friends and I am in the best shape of my life. Personally, Taekwondo training has given me more confidence in myself and I am ¾ of the way to black belt status, which I thought I would never have been able to achieve. At the USTC, Master Lee and his staff are knowledgeable and always willing to help me out with techniques that are difficult. As for Adam, my primary goal was to pull him out of his shell. He was a very shy kid and would not do anything without his mom or myself beside him at all times. Master Lee and his staff were very patient with the both of us. And now, he is with his friends without having one of us with him. I am so proud of him and the accomplishments he has made since the beginning of our Taekwondo training. My personal thought is our Taekwondo training has benefited us both in our relationship with each other and has brought us closer together."

"Cathi and I wanted to share our appreciation of you and your staff's efforts in helping our son Justin improve over his physical challenges. Justin has a condition of low tone Cerebral Palsy. In November 2001, we put Justin into the U.S. Taekwondo Center. Justin has gained noticeable physical improvements since he has been in the Center, which he had not received from his traditional physical therapy session. I have experienced first hand the improvements Justin has made since becoming a member. In addition to his physical improvements, the teaching of respect and overall discipline had been tremendous for both him and us. Todd and Cathi Colas "
